Found Songs VinylErased Tapes #ad - Found Songs Vinyl #ad - With artwork contributions from fans via Flickr, this modern release awakens memories of a tradition that seemed lost in the digital age we live in. In april 2009, iceland s neo-classical export lafur Arnalds created the 7-song series Found Songs recording a song a day for 7 days and instantly making each track available via Twitter.
For Now I Am Winter LPMercury Classics #ad - I think its by far the best thing Ive done. Hes also released two eps each composed in a week; Found Songs in 2009 and Living Room Songs in 2011. Here it continues both musically and conceptually - a personal evolution as a composer and, for the first time, as a songwriter. Purveying a neo-classical style with an array of influences which range from electronica to minimalism, Arnalds is an artist who draws from a variety of sources whilst maintaining his own unique sound.
Since 2009 he has scored films and tv shows including another happy Day, ITVs upcoming drama Broadchurch and the Vanessa Hudgens-starring feature film Gimme Shelter, as well as having tracks featured on the soundtracks to Hollywood hits The Hunger Games and Looper. Im really happy that I made this decision to try something different.
For Now I Am Winter LP #ad - The concept of evolution and seasonal change is one which has been ever-present in his music. On his past outings and last studio album. And they have escaped the Weight of Darkness, the basis was almost always piano and strings with electronic embellishments. Icelandic singer Arnor Dan can be heard on four tracks.
Fresh off lauded performances at iceland Airwaves, including an intimate KEXP live broadcast performance, Arnalds continues to steadily build a reputation as one of the worlds most bright and able young composers.
The Chopin Project LPMercury Classics #ad - He also employed various mixing techniques to re-enforce feelings of solitude or loneliness, and to create dreamlike ambient soundscapes. I love playing on out-of-tune bar pianos and, in my opinion, Chopin s music fits very well to those circumstances, she says. The result after studio mixing - is a textured, multi-layered musical experience unlike any other.
The listener should feel so close to the performer that he or she can hear each breath, or fragile touch of the keys. Ott was instantly hooked by the project. Award-winning young icelandic pop/classical musician Ólafur Arnalds celebrated composer of the score for TV series Broadchurch has always loved the piano music of Frédéric Chopin, but he d grown weary of the uniform and standardized perfection of recordings.
The Chopin Project LP #ad - And one day, i thought: why don t i do it myself? and thus, on a long flight to London, in partnership with the acclaimed German-Japanese pianist Alice Sara Ott, THE CHOPIN PROJECT was born. In order to achieve his aim, Arnalds developed an intimate, fragile and often charmingly imperfect sound using old/unusual/altered pianos captured on vintage recording equipment.
. Arnalds then recorded the pianist using vintage equipment, creating a very close-up, intimate setting for her performances. Sometimes there are creaks, breaths, jangling piano strings, rustles of paper in other words, the sounds of real life which are usually removed from Chopin recordings. There has been no re-invention of the way Chopin s music has been presented since recording began, and I was longing for someone to come along and try something different.

Orphee LPDeutsche Grammophon #ad - This album is an oblique reflection on personal change. Rather, the music seemed to be waiting for its form, for its momentum. I began to reshape and transfigure these ideas, writing many different variations. Unlike many of my previous albums, this one didnt start out with a conceptual or narrative theme binding the music together.
. Olafur arnalds- & they Have Escaped The Weight Of Darkness. These renderings slowly mutated over time in a process of deconstruction and re-assembly, to the extent that the original versions began to fade into the darker corners of my hard disk. Orphée was for me about moving to a new city, breaking up old relationships and beginning new ones, leaving behind an old life in Copenhagen and building a new one in Berlin.
Jóhann jóhannsson orphÉe is a melancholic, yet optimistic musical journey inspired by the Orpheus myth Orpheus rising from the underworld, trying to escape darkness into the light. OrphÉe is his highly anticipated new studio album the first in 6 years! Jóhannssons genre-blending score represents all facets of his previous works from intimate string quartet pieces, choir, featuring electronics, to large string orchestra works, piano, organ, drones, as well as enigmatic shortwave broadcasts to create an evocative & immersive sound.
Orphee LP #ad - Prolific and critically acclaimed composer Jóhann Jóhannsson releases his DG debut album. I started writing this album in 2009, using a number of simple contrapuntal themes. I think that s why i gravitated to Ovid s version of the Orpheus myth, which tells of death, rebirth and an artist s search for truth.
One of these pieces seemed to ask for vocals, and the poet s version of the Orpheus myth, and the composer was drawn to the text of Ovid s Metamorphoses, whose multiple meanings offered Jóhannsson a rich source of inspiration.

Recomposed By Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four SeasonsDeutsche Grammophon 28929595 #ad - Previous recomposed releases are by matthias arfmann 2005, Jimi Tenor 2006, Carl Craig & Moritz von Oswald 2008 and Matthew Herbert 2010 What max richter has achieved, though, with Vivaldi Recomposed is no mere arrangement - he has absorbed Vivaldis The Four Seasons into his own musical bloodstream. Composed in 1723, antonio vivaldis four Seasons is arguably the most familiar piece of classical music in the world, and one of the most recorded pieces of all time.
In a bold move characteristic of his boundary-pushing career, Max Richter has brought the quartet of baroque concertos firmly into the 21st century. Famed for his minimalist post-classical approach, incorporating electronica and found sounds, Richter controversially discarded most of Vivaldis score. Likening his work to that of a sculptor, layering and looping familiar fragments to reinvigorate a work diminished by overuse in elevators, Richter says he picked his favourite bits of the score and reshaped them into new objects, TV ads and as telephone holding music.
Recomposed By Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons #ad - I only kept about 25 per cent of the notes but theres Vivaldi DNA in all of it, says Max. Olafur arnalds- & they Have Escaped The Weight Of Darkness. Of monsters & Men- Fever Dream. I kept the gestures and shapes, the textures and dynamics. There are bits of vivaldi and bits of me daydreaming about the original, thinking aloud about it.
First released in germany in 2012, vivaldi Recomposed is the fifth in Deutsche Grammophons innovative series of collaborations between iconic musicians of the past and present.
Eulogy For EvolutionERASED TAPES #ad - Originally written as a teenager, the record has now been restored with the help of his friends, remixed by Ólafur himself and remastered by Nils Frahm. Following its initial release in 2007 and coinciding with Ólafur's 30th birthday, label founder Robert Raths gifted the chance for this record to shine a second time.
Fast forward 10 years, our relationships and knowledge in sound have matured, but you can still hear this urgency in Óli's songs that caught my ears to begin with'', states Robert Raths. Black vinyl edition* icelandic composer Ólafur arnalds reissues and revives his debut album in form of a special remastered 10th Anniversary edition titled Eulogy For Evolution 2017 available worldwide via Erased Tapes on August 25th.
Eulogy For Evolution #ad - Olafur arnalds- & they Have Escaped The Weight Of Darkness. Of monsters & Men- Fever Dream. To experience the record in the present day is not only to experience the past, but also the sheer timelessness and relevance of these compositions, and the ambition Ólafur has had from the very beginning. The cover art was redesigned and enhanced by torsten Posselt at FELD using the original photographs taken by Stuart Bailes during a trip to Ólafur's home in Iceland in 2007.
